Miro Chun’s study of functional porcelain and stoneware focuses on reductive forms that emphasize the tactility of clay-as-material.
The collection is designed in groupings—mirroring the sociality that shapes and surrounds the rituals of dining. Miro’s training as an architect informs the relationships between the objects and their placement, so that the spaces created between each piece become as important as the objects themselves.
She chooses materials and glazes that allow the history of use to “mark” each piece—stains from tea, the gradual smoothing of rough surfaces—and imbue seemingly unchangeable materials with memories of meals past. Like a special tablecloth brought out only for holidays or a blanket that turns soft from years of use, Miro’s pieces become more meaningful with age.
