About the Manufacturer
Lindsay Meacham knew she wanted to work with clay since her hands fist squeezed a ball of playdough. Growing up in a family of architects her childhood was a constant remodel. While other kids were playing "house" Lindsay was dreaming of "house building" and could be found cutting out photos from her mother's design and architectural magazines. After a childhood dedicated to the arts, she chose to study ceramics and anthropology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a strong focus in tilemaking. After school Lindsay became production manager at Newsome Ceramic Tile Design and in 2006 collaborated with Susan and Howard Meacham to found Red Rock Tileworks. She is heavily involved in the tilemaking process and can be found elbows deep in the clay or communicating with customers in the office. When Lindsay isn't overseeing production you can find her running around town with her dog Roscoe or exploring Nashville's music scene. All of Red Rock’s clay is recycled. If a tile doesn't come out of the mold right, they grind it back into dust, add water and make a new one out of it. Scrap clay that is contaminated from stuff on their shoes is collected for a local gardening company that uses it for landscaping. To go one step further, this scrap clay is held in used barley bags from their local brewing company. Water that is captured in our drying room is used for cleaning and almost all of Red Rock’s equipment is "reused", they are salvagers that take old stuff and re-purpose it to fit their tile making needs. Ninety-five percent of their equipment is either used or fashioned from old material. For example, an old shower pan now serves as a spray booth collection pan, and bread trays from a local burger joint are used for tile storage trays.
